In the past year, I’ve noticed that the Department of Game and Fish has increased the volume of cases it has filed against hunters, fishers, guides and outfitters. Unfortunately, in many of these cases the accused does not retain legal counsel, instead opting to handle the matter themselves. This can result into the Defendant taking a plea to an administrative violation and not an actual crime. Game and Fish regularly uses these convictions to bolster later administrative actions to suspend the hunting and fishing privileges of a hunter, guide, or outfitter.
